To believe that The Bilash Tandoori in Cheapside, Wolverhampton, is just another Indian restaurant is a big mistake. It is one the finest purveyors of Bangladeshi cuisine in the country. Just look at all the awards that Mr Kahn and his staff have amassed over the years, combined with all the rave reviews in the best curry guides, and you will soon see why people travel from all over the country to sample the exotic dishes.
Among the thousands of customers each year, Mr Kahn has recently catered for a large party from the Palace of Westminster, including several well known Members of Parliament. The restaurant in Cheapside has recently been refurbished, so sit back, relax and watch as the chefs prepare the food. The rear wall of the restaurant is glazed, allowing you to marvel as they conjure up the finest cuisine.
The restaurant has recently introduced a new menu, with over a dozen brand new exotic dishes. But don’t worry, it still contains the classic dishes for which the Bilash is famous. New for hors d’oeuvres is Chicken Satay, succulent chicken breasts marinated overnight with fresh ginger, garlic, soy sauce, mixed curry paste, finely chopped onions and pepper. The chicken is then pan fried slowly and served with a piquant tomato sauce containing green chillies and tamarind. The Murghi-Diya-Shorisha (chicken cooked with mustard) is another new dish. The medley of spices and herbs creates a dish that will leave your taste buds tingling.
The Passanda Kebab is fresh fillets of lamb marinated overnight with ginger, garlic, garam massala, curry paste, coriander paste and yoghurt, cooked and served with a creamy sauce. The most surprising new dish is Coriander Tiger Prawns. Bengali tiger prawns are marinated for a short time in garlic, ginger, salt and pepper. The prawns are then slowly cooked in sesame oil, then massive amounts of roughly chopped fresh coriander, green chilli, cumin and tomato ketchup are added. The dish is served with rice noodles which are fried in sesame oil with finely sliced carrot and chopped spring onions.
Sample the new dishes and wash them down with a bottle of wine from the extensive drinks menu.
“The Bilash” in Bangladeshi means a place of luxury, so sit back and enjoy the vast range of exotic traditional food from the far east in the heart of Wolverhampton.
